This is a closeup of the fly on the pitcher plant. It is fabricated from sterling silver. It is the size of a thumbnail.
This is a close up of the leaves. They were "roll printed" with a real leaf, which only leaves an impression on the surface of the metal. The vein lines are then chased and the leaf formed with a nylon hammer.
This was a very involved sculpture. The hornets nest was sculpted using a soft wax, for the lost wax method. I cast it in cast iron. There are 21 sterling silver hornets, 321 copper enameled leaves and a branch that is forged and fabricated from mild steel.
Another view of the nest. The copper leaves are fabricated and enameled. They were then lightly sandblasted to matte the surface and hit with a soft flame of a torch to bring the color back.
This closeup shows the detail of the hole in the hornets nest and the silver hornets. The hornets have rare earth magnets, so they can be moved anywhere on the nest or branch.
